INTRODUCTION
The patient perspective is central
to medicine. Now it is possible to systematically integrate
the patient perspective using simple tools for clinical
practice based on the ICF (International Classification
of Functioning Disability and Health, formerly ICIDH).
These tools, so-called ICF Core Sets, have been scientifically
developed for a number of 12 health conditions. ICF
Core Sets are short lists of ICF categories relevant
to most patients with a specific condition. They can
be used either by clinicians or health professionals
both for the assessment of patient problems and the
evaluation of treatment. ICF Core Sets may also be used
in clinical studies and for health monitoring in the
future. For further information on the development of
the ICF Core Sets, please see Stucki et al. 2001.
One of the current steps in the development process
of the ICF Core Sets is their validation in a multicenter,
validation study in different countries. The quality
of the ICF Core Sets in a variety of settings and cultures
can thereby be ensured. The results of this study will
provide the basis for consensus on a final version of
the ICF Core Sets.
STUDY
GOALS
The overall objective is to examine the validity
of the ICF Core Sets in specific populations and to
identify candidate categories for the brief ICF Core
Sets to be used in
all clinical studies in a specific population.
